About BGCSA

Today, in South Africa the children will leave school and take to the streets.  Some will go home to a parent, some will go home as the head of a child centered household and some will roam the streets unsupervised and vulnerable.

The majority will enter the most dangerous time of the day unsupervised and left to their own devices.  Research indicates that youth-related crime doubles between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. every weekday.  National statistics and daily headlines make it abundantly clear that unsupervised children are at risk in the after school hours.

Today’s youth face many challenges: violence, family dysfunction, glamorization of early sexual activity and the availability of drugs and alcohol.

The presence of an after school program supervised by professional staff that serve as caring adults in a child’s life can make all the difference and give them a chance to live a happy successful life.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of South Africa is an initiative that aims to establish a safe facility based after school programs for young people during the after school hours providing them a safe and fun environment in which to grow up and experience their childhood.
